What is Zumba?
Zumba® is a Latin inspired dance fitness class incorporating hypnotic Latin rhythms and the latest international tracks from around the world. Combined with easy to follow dance moves and exciting choreography using the Zumba® core steps formula ensures a full body workout and an exhilarating Zumba® Fitness experience.
What are the benefits of Zumba?
The benefits of Zumba® include calorie burning, lowered body fat and better muscle tone, improved balance and coordination, lower blood pressure, increased bone density and core strength and an improved mood. Warning Zumba® may cause extreme happiness (we call this the Zumba® buzz)!!
What happens at a class?
Each class is taught with the instructor facing the students and moves should be followed as you are looking into a mirror but there is no ‘left’ or ‘right’ in Zumba® so it really doesn’t matter which way you go! Every class is carefully planned to ensure everyone gets a safe, effective and fun Zumba® workout. We always start with a structured warm-up to mobilise the joints, raise the body temperature and get the blood pumping. This is usually three tracks with stretches to ensure our bodies are ready to start our Zumba® moves. The main section usually includes nine tracks of high energy, uplifting routines covering a wide variety of dance styles. To ensure we have no aches and pains the following day we always finish with two tracks to cool down and stretch out those hard working muscles.
Do I need dancing experience?
No, absolutely not! It doesn’t matter if you’ve never danced before, Zumba® is for everyone and the steps are taught in such a way that you can work at your own pace and gradually gain a knowledge of the core steps. You will need to complete a quick registration form if it’s your first Zumba® class with Go Zumba® UK.
I’m a beginner – do you have a beginner’s class?
All of our classes are suitable for beginners, and new students start each week so in no time at all you will be a Zumba® expert! There’s no right or wrong at class, it’s all about moving, getting a bit sweaty and having fun dancing to uplifting music.
How much are Zumba® Classes at Go Zumba® UK?
All hour long classes at just £6 are excellent value for money and 14 years and under are just £3. If you decide you’d like to attend regularly, you can purchase a pre paid card of 10 classes for a discounted rate of £50, making each class £5. You have 6 months to use the classes up, so there’s no need to commit to each week. Simply bring along your Go Zumba UK class pass card to each class to have it stamped. We accept cash or debit card contactless payment at every class.
Can children attend Zumba®?
We welcome young adults to class as long as they are able to fully participate and are accompanied by an adult taking part in a class. Classes for young people aged 14 years and under are £3 for teens aged 15 years and above the normal rate of £6 applies. Younger children are welcome as long as they are able to participate sensibly.
I am unable to attend the same classes each week due to work – will I miss something?
No, the great thing about Zumba® is that there is no set ‘course’ of lessons so you can pick up where you left off if you’ve been on holiday for example. New dances are introduced regularly to keep things interesting but there will be some dances that are kept the same so everyone will still know at least a few of the dances. You can pick and choose whichever class is most convenient for you throughout the week and get your Zumba® fix whenever is best for you.
Do I need a partner?
No partner is required, but if you’d like to bring some friends or family along that’s great – the more the merrier. If you’re coming along on your own, don’t worry you will soon leave with Zumba® friends!
Do I need to pre-book?
All classes should be pre booked if possible, but we also offer a set amount of walk in spaces for the evening classes so you can just turn up and pay on the door with cash or contactless debit card.
Is there a stage so I can see?
Yes, all of our venues have a stage for the instructor(s) so you always get a clear view of all the moves!
Where can I park?
All of our venues have either a free well-lit car park on-site or access to free parking nearby.
What do I need to bring?
Bring a drink, a small gym towel (if required) and a smile😁
What should I wear?
Firstly, Zumba® is not a fashion competition although we love bright colours! Wear light-weight, breathable clothing such as leggings, joggers, t-shirts and vests and sweaters. Do wear a good sports bra as we do a lot of shimmying and shaking (women only!).
What’s the best footwear for Zumba?
The best footwear is a lightweight trainer or dap with some cushioning support and minimal tread on the sole, some trainers even have a turning spot on the ball of the foot and helps you turn twist and move without straining your joints. Barefoot is not recommended at a live class but fine for an at home virtual class. Most popular brands have a specific dance/aerobic trainer.
Can I still attend if I have a medical condition?
If you have any medical condition or are pregnant please ensure you have permission from your doctor before commencing any fitness program and enter this on your registration form. Please let your instructor know about any conditions so she can advise and help you to modify the moves to suit.
I have a disability – can I attend a Zumba® class?
If you are mobile and have permission from your doctor then normally yes. Please contact Jodie if you would like to discuss this in more detail.
